I'm a writer living in the Lake District and loving it. It's my corner of heaven and I wouldn't live anywhere else - well, actually I'd love to live a little nearer to Lincolnshire, the home county of the mighty Lancaster Bomber, or perhaps Cambridge for the beautiful B-17, but we can't have everything. Having lived in three other regions of the country, I finally feel at home in my old stone cottage.
After leaving a career in health care, I decided to study for a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. It was the best thing I could have done because I finally realised my purpose in life and that journey led me to where I am now - a writer.
History is my passion and writing historical fiction dominates my life. Other than that I love to read, watch great movies, go for walks and I recently took up yoga. My children and dogs keep me busy and family life is naturally chaotic.
Why do I write? That's the simple part - because I have to. I'm fulfilling an instinct and bringing history to life is an integral part of my life's journey. Often it's difficult to explain but if I'm not writing, then it feels as if a part of me is missing. When I'm
writing, I have a purpose.
Both World Wars fascinate me and I have an intense fixation deeply rooted within aviation. Lancaster Bomber's, B-17's, B-24's, Spitfires and Hurricanes along with the amazing de Havilland Mosquito and the P-51 Mustang. My life-long ambition is to fly in a B-17 and a Lancaster bomber.
Some of the great authors who have influenced my writing include Pat Barker, Hilary Mantel, Sebastian Faulks, Ernest Hemingway and Chekhov.
My debut novel, The Beauty Shop, was released in November 2016 and I'm in the process of completing my next book which I hope to release later this year.
